The way you start and finish your day can have a huge impact on how successful you are. So how do successful people start and finish their days?

Well firstly they probably live by a motto similar to “Don’t work harder, work smarter.”

Whilst you need to work hard to be successful there are ways you can improve what you do and make your life a bit easier. Many successful people and routines that they stick to and this can make a life so much easier!

When you arrive at work:

  • Drink a glass of water. It’s important to stay hydrated so make sure you have a drink with you at your desk.
  • Eat breakfast. If you haven’t already make sure you eat something to help you feel awake. If you don’t feel like eating at that time then keep some healthy snacks to hand for you to reach for through the day.
  • Write a list of tasks that you need to do today. This can be in whatever way you find easiest, whether that’s an online to do list like Trello that is shared with your team, handwritten so you can tick it off or on sticky notes so you can stick them to your screen
  • Go through emails and flag them in order of importance or sort them into folders. Making sure your emails are organised can really help you to see what you have left to do and plan your day more efficiently.
  • Set goals. Set goals for each day and weekly goals. These give you something to aim for and are extremely satisfying to complete. They don’t have to be big things every time but keep it interesting.

Last thing:

  • Write a list of the things you didn’t get to finish or things you need to do tomorrow.
  • Flag emails you need to deal with tomorrow and set outlook reminders for deadlines you have coming up.
  • Tidy your desk and organise things so that it will look fresh and clean when you come in the next morning.
  • Check in with members of your team to see how their day has been and if they need anything. It is as important for you as it is for them to make this time and support each others mental wellbeing.
